July 25th, 2019 - 03:00pm@JakePerperThe Mississippi Gaming Commission granted site approval to a proposed casino location in Hancock County, Mississippi on July 18, as reported by Biloxi television station WLOX-TV.
The proposed plan by Cure Land Company includes 40,000 square feet of space for overall gaming, 1,100 slot machines and 22 table games. There are also plans for a 300-room hotel, sitting on 98.5 acres on South Beach Boulevard. It’s unclear if the hotel is part of the casino.
The proposed casino location is in Lakeshore, Mississippi, and was brought forward by Cure Land Company, a local developer in Hancock County. CLC first posted its legal notice on March 6 in the Sea Coast Echo.
The casino's location in Hancock County, the southernmost part of Mississippi, makes a lot of sense. It's only 60 miles from New Orleans, Louisiana. The casino might not be a huge hit right away, but the location will be suitable to attract a lot of tourists and plenty of foot traffic.
Mississippi Casino Landscape
In 2019 already, Mississippi reported casinos brought in over $1.11 billion in overall revenue from the central, coastal and northern casinos combined. March was the best month overall at $211.8 million while April through June has stayed consistent at around the $181 million per month.
There are currently 39 casinos across the state with 16 located in the Gulf Coast, 10 in the Lower River Region and 10 in the Upper River Region. The other three are Native American owned casinos.
The five biggest casinos in the state all sit in the Gulf Coast: The Island View Casino Resort, Beau Rivage Resort and Casino, IP Casino Resort Spa, Scarlet Pearl Casino and Hotel, and Hard Rock Hotel and Casino – Biloxi.
The Mississippi gaming landscape is a good one and a true player in the market. The numbers should continue to rise and with the plethora of options and locations, betting should only get better and easier for gamblers.
Hancock County will be joining the action at the right time.
